THE MOVING JOINT TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM
NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
My name is Alyson Boell-Marchand, and I am the director of The Moving Joint Training Program. I have spent my life investigating many modalities of movement and have been teaching Pilates full time since 2005. I completed my BFA in dance and choreography in 2003. After spending so much time learning body mechanics and injury prevention through dancing, I realized that my calling was to bring that knowledge and passion to help people find the joy of movement as well as the freedom in knowing how to move properly in everyday life. I, as well as the rest of the teacher training staff at The Moving Joint, have worked alongside multiple physical therapists and master Pilates professionals, and we are continuously inspiring each other as colleagues.
Pilates has become very popular and different types of people are finding Pilates essential for their wellbeing and livelihood. We work with athletes, the elderly, professional dancers, post operative clients, and clients with neurological issues. We need to be versed in how to help a variety of people reach their unique fitness goals as well as rehabilitation needs. As a studio owner, I appreciate when an instructor has the tools to work with a broad spectrum of people. The team of instructors that will be training you in this versatility are a stellar and innovative group of movement artists who have multiple degrees and certifications. Each Moving Joint Teacher Training Program will have three master teachers who will share their special gifts and talents. We are excited to pass on our decades of teaching experience so that you may offer to others the health giving benefits that can last a lifetime.
Joseph Pilates created the Pilates equipment and exercises with so much precision and ingenuity that a thoughtful and well-trained teacher can make a huge difference in their clients’ lives. As teachers, we help people access their movement potential, help them find proper alignment, ease of movement, loss of pain, and a neutralized nervous system. The choice to become a Pilates teacher can be immensely rewarding and fulfilling. There are many Pilates training programs out there with many different philosophies and it is important to choose the one that fits your personality and is in line with your movement and health philosophy.
The Moving Joint Teacher Training Program will guide and encourage you to become an innovative, intuitive and fully equipped teacher. We approach the body holistically, teaching physical anatomy in detail, as well as incorporating the somatic and autonomic nervous systems, and the mind-body connection. Our goal is to find a healthy balance between the fitness and rehabilitative aspects of Pilates and for you to learn the “skills” necessary for a balanced body. A major emphasis is also placed on instructor health and self-care. Our in-depth program is in line with all of the current Pilates Method Alliance standards. We aim to provide a nurturing environment and open our doors to you so that you may delve into this amazing form of bodywork.

Q: If I complete The Moving Joint Teacher Training Program, will I be able to start teaching Pilates right away?
A: Before receiving your certificate of completion, you will need to complete 75 self-practice hours, 115 student teaching or assistant teaching hours, 75 Observation Hours, and a final written and practical test.
Q: After I receive My Certificate of Completion, will I be Pilates Method Alliance Certified?
A: Because The Moving Joint Teacher Training Program is in line with PMA standards, you should be ready to take the PMA test after the completion of the program, but you are not automatically considered a PMA member until you take their test. This can also be done at a later date
Q: What happens if I need to miss a day or weekend of the training?
A: We highly recommend trying to attend all of the lectures for continuity, however if you need to miss one day or weekend, you can either view the video of the lectures, or pay an extra rate to work privately with a teacher trainer to make up the material. You may also make it up at a following training, although this would delay the completion of your training.
Q: Do I need to do the mentorship program to become a certified instructor?
A: No! The mentorship is an add on program to help new instructors with individual information and feedback. It is not a requirement for the completion of certification.
Q: Do I need to do the mentorship program directly after the teacher training program?
A: No, you may wait, however it is recommended that you start it within 6 months of the completion of the training program.
